Sunday is Pizza Day....
Tasty vegan pizza is hard to find...unless you are in our kitchen. Our pizza are generally thin crust with a generous layer of homemade tomato sauce and light but flavorful toppings. The one pictured is our standard fare, but we have been known to put whatever is left in our pantry on top of a pizza. We have tweaked our crust recipe for years to get it right.
Below is our basic dough recipe. We also listed the toppings we use most often. We didn't include measurements for the toppings because they vary depending on our mood. . As for our tomato sauce? That secret family recipe is not ready to be shared quite yet!
Adashoftwo Pizza Dough
- 1/2 pack of Fleischmann/s yeast
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 2 tbsp oil
- 1 1/2 tbsp sugar
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups of flour (we use enriched white flour, but feel free to substitute whole wheat)
Mix the yeast, sugar and lukewarm water in a medium sized bowl. Allow this mixture to sit for 10 minutes. Add the oil and the flour until the desired consistency is reached. Knead for 1 minute (yes, we are lazy with the kneading - sue us. The crust still tastes damn good). Cover with a cloth or paper towel and allow it to rise for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 450 F. Add flour to the dough and knead for 1-2 minutes. Spread dough on to a prepared pan or pizza stone. Bake for 7-10 minutes or until brown. Cover dough with tomato sauce, your toppings and cheese, then return the pizza to the oven for 3-5 minutes or until cheese is melted.
